Google Sheets Assignment
The first thing I want you to do for this assignment is watch a tutorial video that I made. I attached 2 videos in Google Classroom. The Google Sheets video explains the basics of Google Sheets. The Inserting Formulas in Sheets video will help you answer the questions for step #10 of this assignment.
After you watch the video, you need to open the Google Sheets assignment and complete the following steps:
1. 6 Headings- Countries, Population, $GDP, Language, Life Expectancy, and Literacy Rate. I want you to change the font size to 18 point font for the headings and make them bold.
2. In the countries column there are 15 countries I want you to include. They are: Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and USA.
3. In the population column, this website is a great resource to use to find the country’s populations. Type their exact population next to the correct country in the population column.
4. In the $GDP column, you need to use this link to find the GDP per capita in each of the countries. Make sure you use the GDP Per Capita (PPP) Column for your numbers.
Type the GDP for each country in the column. Make sure you use dollar signs. To do that you will need to change the numbers to currency instead of typing the $ sign. The Tutorial Video shows you how to do this. Change the decimal point to zero. (Remember you can use ctrl+F to search for specific words on web pages).
5. For the Language column, you need to go to google and type the name of the country you are looking for and the word “language”. Write the main language they speak in the column.
6. Use this link to find the life expectancy rates for each country. Round each number so there aren’t any decimal points. They should all be whole numbers. You can’t write the word “years” in the cells. If you do, it will mess up your charts later.
7. Use this link to find the literacy rates for each country. Use the literacy rates for the total population. Round each number so there aren’t any decimal points. They should all be whole numbers. If you have trouble finding some of the countries you can use this link as another resource. Just hover the mouse over the country you want to find out about and it will show you the literacy rate. Also make sure you change the column’s number type to “Percentage”.
8. After each column is finished, make a 2-D Column Chart for Population. You will do it the exact same way that I did in the video.
9. Make a 2-D Bar Graph for $GDP. You will do it the exact same way that I did in the video.
10. You will need to watch the new video for this step. You need to insert formulas into the chart so it calculates each column except classification. Here are the formulas you will need for each column:
- Population (sum)
- $GDP (average)
- Life Expectancy (average)
- Literacy Rate (average)
Make sure you Bold the answers after you insert the formulas. Also, make sure you don’t include the USA in your formulas so that means you will need to insert 1 row above USA to put your formulas in.
Google Sheets

7. Use este enlace para encontrar las tasas de esperanza de vida de cada país. Redondea cada número para que no haya ningún punto decimal. Todos deberían ser números enteros. No puede escribir la palabra “años” en las celdas. Si lo hace, arruinará sus gráficos más tarde.
8. Después de terminar cada columna, haga un gráfico de columnas bidimensional para la población. Lo harás exactamente de la misma manera que lo hice en el video.
